300 New-to-Me Films/Albums/Books in 2012 : 003/300
Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois (2005) : ★★★★★
I know, I know. I’m a terrible person for sleeping on Sufjan Stevens for so long. But, please, forgive me. This is one of the most beautiful albums I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. It’s great, and there’s really not much else I can say about it that hasn’t been said a million times over by websites/magazines like Pitchfork or The A.V. Club or Spin. The melodies, the lyrics, the album’s flow — everything is amazing.
I’m already pretty behind on my 300 movies/albums/books list, so I’m probably going to stop doing individual posts for each new thing I get through. But Illinois was so good, I had to give it its own post. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time.
